I Never Thought a Random Call Could Be So Dangerous’: Diksha Singh on Digital Awareness
Swipe Crime on Amazon MX Player explores the murky waters of online dating and social media exploitation. Produced by Versatile Motion Pictures and starring Diksha Singh, the series is a cautionary tale about the unforeseen dangers lurking in virtual spaces.
Sharing her own encounter, Diksha revealed, “Thankfully, I’ve never been personally involved in a dating app trap, but I did have a few unsettling experiences. Once, someone made a random WhatsApp video call and tried to display inappropriate content. It was likely an attempt to record my reaction for blackmail purposes. This personal anecdote reflects the relevance of Swipe Crime. “The series brings awareness about traps and scams, which are alarmingly common today. It’s inspired by true events, and while we’ve made it entertaining, there’s an underlying message to remain vigilant,” Diksha said.
Diksha’s portrayal of Juhi is central to the show’s narrative. “Juhi is unlike the other characters; she’s dark, detached, and unapologetic. While the others represent love and friendship, Juhi’s actions are driven by her own motives, making her intriguing and unpredictable,” she explained.
The actor also praised her co-stars and the team behind the show. “Sayyam and Riya are phenomenal. Sayyam has a great sense of humor, and Riya is calm, hardworking, and mature. It’s refreshing to work with such a supportive and mentally stable team,” she said.
Diksha believes the show has struck a chord with viewers because of its modern-day relevance. “The youth today is deeply immersed in social media. This series not only entertains but also informs about the potential dangers of these platforms,” she stated.
With Season 2 on the horizon, Swipe Crime continues to highlight the complexities of online interactions. Diksha’s message to viewers is simple yet powerful: “Be careful. Traps are becoming common, and staying informed is the first step to staying safe.”
